Marilyn Abegg,
Regional Director

Marilyn Abegg has been active in community and educational affairs for over thirty years. She began her career as a teacher and later served as a school principal in Kingsville, Texas. After moving to Nacogdoches, Texas in 1972, she was actively committed to rearing a family and to volunteerism. Her involvement included numerous community and church activities, various educational task forces, and tenure as President of the Nacogdoches Junior Forum. She joined the Chamber of Commerce staff in 1982 where she was responsible for membership development as well as for organizing and operating the Nacogdoches Heritage Festival, Leadership Nacogdoches, and The President's Club.

Marilyn left the Chamber in 1988 to assume a position as Director of Development for Stephen F. Austin State University. There she initiated the SFA Parents Association and began an active Annual Fund campaign for the university. She has extensive experience in educational and community fund raising, strategic planning, and in organizing special events. She has a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Texas and has additional work toward a Masters Degree in Interdisciplinary studies.

In March of 1992, Marilyn resigned from Stephen F. Austin State University to join her husband’s firm Abegg & Associates, a consulting firm based in Tyler, Texas. Following her husband’s death in 1997, Marilyn became the principal in the firm. Primarily, the firm’s clientele are non-profit organizations needing assistance with strategic planning, fund development plans, board development, development audits, case statement development, annual fund drives, capital campaigns, and membership drives. She also offers seminars and workshops focusing on a range of philanthropic trends and non-profit solutions.
