WHEN KNOWLEDGE IS NOT ENOUGH
Twelve Practices to Succeed in Higher Education Development
Presented by long-time CASE III supporter and friend, Doug Alexander,
the workshop activities will address the interrelated topics of the (1)
application of successful fundraising principles and best practices and
(2) how they can both positively and negatively affect ones personal
career. This day long workshop will focus on the critical personal
attributes and knowledge a successful development officer must have for
a successful career in higher education development and how to establish
and meet institutional expectations.
Some of the key take aways participants can expect:
- Learn how to handle difficult situations with your President,
volunteers, campaign leaders and staff;
- Learn techniques to educate these groups before things get “out
of hand”.
- Through specific case studies, participants will understand the
principles of fundraising that can either make you extremely
successful or “doomed” to failure. This includes the importance of
individual giving and creating a cultural of philanthropy.
- Learn how to not have to change jobs every 3.6 years.
- Achieve a clear understanding of the difference between
development and fundraising.
- Prepare to meet the three inevitable issues that you will face
in a large capital campaign
- How to work with and NOT for your President.
- Learn what not to do your first days on a new job and
- Address other issues brought up by workshop participants.
Major Gifts & The Internet
A Real Silver Bullet

Have you been looking for a silver
bullet for your development program? Have you bought or been approached
about various “easy” solutions like online giving, shopping malls,
insurance products, outbound email campaigns, novel special events,
podcasts, cause related marketing, animal races, brick sales or high
technology “solutions” using various unexplainable platforms and
spheres? Many of these ideas involve the Internet and have some merit
but the real silver bullet
for virtually all non-profits is a successful major gifts program. While
not “easy and free”, using Internet resources to create and enhance
major giving is an underutilized resource for securing major gifts.
Doug
Alexander has helped organizations raise billions of dollars and
this workshop will explain how to integrate technology and the Internet
in building a major gifts program. Services and case studies from
FundraisingINFO.com will also be part of the workshop.
